Time to unleash The Hurricane?

Since his transfer from the Kaizer Chiefs us Pompey fans have not seen much of our Zambian striker - Collins Mbesuma. In my previous article on Mbesuma I said how his current physical condition was causing concern with the Portsmouth management. So much so, he has not been near the first team squad since his brief cameo appearance against Tottenham on the opening game of the season.
On Tuesday night, we start our Carling Cup adventure away at League 1 side Gillingham. Our Kent opposition will be the perfect opposition for our young Zambian to cut his teeth in front of goal.
After a good 6 weeks of training at the Wellington Sports ground with the rest of the Pompey squad, I would hope Mbesuma is now physically fit and ready to start for the first team. A lot is expected of the lad, labelled the new Yakubu upon his arrival in England. After watching LuaLua and Silva on Saturday, the need for a consistent goal scorer is evident.
I received criticism for my views on Silva after the game. I don’t believe signing a 32 year old who was released by his previous club is really showing ambition and moving the club forward. That is why I am paying so much attention to Collins Mbesuma. If he lives up to the hype, we have a true star on our hands. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
After the game tomorrow night (depending if he starts of course) we will hopefully have a better idea what sort of player we have signed.
The team I would play tomorrow against Gillingham would be:
Westerveld
Griffin - Priske - Stefanovic - Taylor
Songo'o - Diao - O'Neil - Vukic
Todorov - Mbseuma
Griffin - Priske - Stefanovic - Taylor
Songo'o - Diao - O'Neil - Vukic
Todorov - Mbseuma
Subs: Ashdown, Viafara, LuaLua, Robert, O'Brien

collins is a good player despit his weight iv watch him take on four defender at once and score spetaculer goes i just think perrin is a useless manager honestly most current strikers at portsmouth have been given opportunity to play i can bet if collins does play 2morrow he will score less than 2 goals
Completely agree with your comments on Silva. Watched him closely on Saturday. Ran around a lot, showed enthusiasm but actually achieved nothing. Unless Todorov is back to full fitness we have no "natural goalscorer" at the club unless Mbesuma is any good. The only way to see is to give him a few games and have a look at him.
I wholeheartedly agree with the opinion of giving the lad a run out now we're facing some 'weaker' opposition.
His lack of Prem experience really shouldn't come into it - although obviously his initially slightly rotund appearance did...if he's a natural goalscorer as we've been told then he should fit in nicely, now that we've got players of providing him with plenty of ammunition.
I think the team I suggested in the atricle would provide him with enought quality service to score.
Vukic looked class when he came on during the game on Saturday, so he could be the man to provide the service.
I was tempted to goto the game against Gillingham, but with the high ticket prices to watch Pompey these days, its just too much, especially for a poor student ;)
